Fascinating Science Workshops for All
KS2 - The Science of Sound Workshop
This school based science workshop brings the topic of sound to life for your pupils, in an exciting and accessible way.
New Workshop!

This is an approximately 2.5 -3 hour workshop that enables your pupils to access and understand the topic of sound within the national curriculum for science. I can work with up to three classes in a day.

Pupils undertake a range of fascinating hands-on activities that will build a deep practical understanding of key aspects of the science of sound. During the workshop we explore the way in which sound is created through vibration, the relationships of loudness and pitch, and even experiment with recording sound using basic historic technology!...
What we explore - KS2 Science Curriculum:

Pupils should be taught to:
-
Identify how sounds are made, associating some of them with something vibrating
-
Recognise that vibrations from sounds travel through a medium to the ear
-
Find patterns between the pitch of a sound and features of the object that produced it
-
Find patterns between the volume of a sound and the strength of the vibrations that produced it
-
Recognise that sounds get fainter as the distance from the sound source increases.
As well as explaining and demonstrating the core science principles of sound, one exciting way to further explore the topic is through the history of recorded sound, as early analogue sound equipment such as wax cylinder phonographs and gramophones highlight the key principles clearly.
We have a specially created demonstrations and resources to bring the topic to life...
